The controversial film classic based on Ayn Rand's first novel.
Ayn Rand's powerful semi-autobiographic novel was made into a film without her permission or even her knowledge. The epic story of beautiful, strong-willed Kira (Alida Valli), and her fugitive lover, Leo (Rosanno Brazzi) in their struggle to live their lives under an oppressive regime proved to be timeless and universal.
The movie became an instant sensation - the second highest-grossing film of 1942 in Italy. But it was banned at the height of its success, its negatives secretly hidden away. Many years later the original film negatives were discovered and Ayn Rand authorized the re-release of the restored film.
New York Newsday said We the Living "qualifies in every respect as film treasure...one of the best movies of the year"
